Scarifying is an essential part of lawn maintenance. It is the process of raking your lawn to prevent the build up of thatch which is the perfect growing medium for disease and bacteria. It also suffocates the roots of your grass by impeding the flow of oxygen, carbon dioxide and moisture and allowing moss to take a hold. Scarifying removes thatch, dead moss and encourages grass roots to grow by pruning the shoots of the grass.
Cornwall Lawncare recommend that most lawns will benefit from scarificationevery two yearsand is most effective 2-3 weeks after applying moss control. It should be carried out either from the beginning of February to the end of April, or the start of September to the end of October.
